Dental crowns are referred to as restorative appliances to restore chipped, damaged, and fractured teeth. Crowns fully encase the structure of your teeth above your gum line. Porcelain crowns are tooth-colored and resemble the shape, size, and appearance of your natural teeth. They blend naturally with the neighboring teeth, hence enhancing your smile and confidence. The tooth-colored nature of porcelain crowns has made them a sought-after option for many.
request an appointmentWhat are Porcelain Crowns?
Porcelain crowns are made using all-ceramic material, mimicking the aesthetic features of your natural teeth used to restore chipped, broken, or damaged teeth. These crowns are also used to restore teeth that have undergone root canal therapy. Our dentist also uses these crowns for making cosmetic enhancements as they cap discolored and stained teeth quite well. Apart from this, porcelain crowns are used to make orthodontic enhancements like closing gaps and abnormal spacing between your teeth.
What is the Procedure?
You need to visit our clinic twice to complete the procedure.
The first visit involves consultation with our dentist, where we will carry out a comprehensive examination to check your oral health. We will also use an X-ray to determine whether you need this procedure and recommend it if your teeth have suffered mild or moderate damage.
The next step involves creating a customized treatment plan as per your requirement. This treatment plan gives you a detailed insight into various stages of the procedure and also highlights the results that you may expect out of it.
Our dentist will prepare your teeth by anesthetizing your damaged teeth and the surrounding area and then removing the decay using a dental drill. If the damage is severe and has reached your pulp chamber, we will perform a root canal to treat the same. After this, we will build up your teeth structure with composite fillings.
We will take digital scans of your mouth and send them to a dental lab to design the crown that matches the size, shape, and color of your natural teeth. Meanwhile, our dentist will give you a temporary crown to protect your teeth. The second visit involves the placement of a permanent porcelain crown. It will be cemented in place using dental adhesives and curing it using a special light.
Advantages of Porcelain Crowns
Earlier, only metal crowns were considered a sought-after option of teeth restoration. But with the introduction of porcelain crowns, many patients have started preferring it over the former.
- Porcelain crowns restore damaged and decayed teeth and improve their functionality.
- They appear exactly like your natural teeth, thereby enhancing your smile without making it look artificial.
- Porcelain crowns are strong and durable, and if taken care of properly, they can last up to 15 years.
