- Knocked-Out ToothIf you have a knocked-out tooth, do not panic. Instead, pick the tooth by the crown, not the root, and rinse it under running water. Be sure to clean any debris or dirt, but do not remove any tissues that are adhering to the tooth. If possible, put the tooth back in the socket and gently bite it to secure it until you see Dr. Rassiwala. You can also place your tooth in milk in a glass and then bring it to our dental practice.
- Toothache/Object Stuck in TeethIf you have a toothache or something is caught between your teeth, causing pain, gently floss between the hurting tooth and rinse it off with warm water. If this does not resolve the discomfort or get rid of the object, contact Dr. Rassiwala. Please do not use anything else other than floss, as it could damage your gums. A toothache causing extreme pain and cannot be relieved with acetaminophen or Ibuprofen might be an emergency. Contact our dental practice immediately if tooth pain prevents you from performing your routine tasks like working, sleeping, or eating.
- Lost Crown or FillingIf you lose your dental filling or crown, we will apply dental cement to cover or fix the exposed tooth. Missing crowns and fillings aren’t significant dental emergencies unless you are suffering from extreme discomfort. Contact Stockton Dental for an emergency appointment in such instances.
- Cracked or Chipped ToothIf your tooth breaks, collect all the fragments you can and bring them with you. For a chipped and damaged tooth, wash it with warm water, then apply gauze to stop bleeding. You might require a cold compress to alleviate the swelling.
- Loose TeethIf your tooth becomes loose due to decay or injury, please contact our dental practice as soon as possible. In the event of a delay, it could cause further damage to the connective tissue that connects the gums and teeth, which could cause the tooth to loosen more or even fall out. The tooth may then require a root canal or an extraction.
- Damaged Jaw, Torn Gums, or Lacerated TongueIf you think you need stitches or suffer from fractured facial bones, head immediately to an emergency room to receive urgent treatment. If your teeth are also damaged, call our dental practice directly for a complete dental examination and discuss possible treatment options.
